A Walmart employee said to the father, “I’m sorry,” after his card was declined.

But before he could go outside with his children, a police officer approached.

It can feel like the news is awash with negativity. However, there are also plenty of heartwarming stories that will restore your faith in humanity – as below.

One day in Cleveland, Tennessee, police officer Michael Kelly was working as a security guard at the local Walmart.

While Officer Kelly was on duty, he saw a father and four children go through the cashier.

Kelly had often seen the family shopping, which she noticed because the children were so well behaved. However, when the father wanted to pay, his card was rejected.

He told Inside Edition: “They went to the self-checkout and he wanted to put his card in.

At that moment, something forced the officer to help.

After the father was unable to do his shopping, the officer wondered if he and the children would have enough to eat.

He couldn’t just see them leave empty-handed, so he decided to pay for their stuff himself.

“The little girl’s face grabbed me. Her eyes filled and it broke my heart. I felt God say to me, ‘I brought you here for a reason.'”

“I went to [the man] and said, ‘Let me bless you today.’

Viewer Jermaine Bowe saw Kelly paying for the items and later shared the details in a Facebook post.

He asked people to help identify the kind-hearted officer, and when the department got wind of the story, they immediately rushed to the rescue.

They shared the story on their Facebook page, writing:

“Scrolling through random Facebook posts and then seeing this one that makes us ALL proud to be Cleveland Police.”

“From a description of ‘he’s six feet and muscular,’ we narrowed it down to our tallest officer and deduced it was Mike Kelly, school resource officer.”

Since the writing of the post, Kelly’s act of kindness has gone viral.

But in the comments, community members were not surprised by his actions:

“I’m not surprised that Mike is exactly Mike.”

“Mike always had a big heart, what a great guy!”

“Not a little surprised. He comes from a long line of good people.”

In its post, the department added: “It’s guaranteed that Kelly wouldn’t take credit for it, but it’s these random acts of kindness that inspire US ALL to be kind to others.”

A similar event took place in Texas.

A man in his fifties or sixties had stopped to buy groceries and medicines before he developed diabetes in the parking lot.

After collapsing and losing consciousness, he awoke to find that his food and medicines had been stolen.

After approaching the store’s security guard and patrolling officer, the man couldn’t believe it when Officer Koryciak offered to buy back his $25 worth of medicines, essentials and vegetables and other groceries. She later said that diabetes ran in her family, so she bonded with the man.

She told reporters, “I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”

We may not be able to change everything in today’s world, but we can do our best to spread kindness to others. These police officers have shown that small acts of kindness can have a big impact.
