Two abusive teachers are fired a day after mom hid microphone in autistic son’s backpack
There is nothing a mother would not do for the sake of her child. From birth, children become the focus of their parents’ lives. Children will always be children in the eyes of their parents, regardless of their age, as they grow up and develop into people who eventually have their families.
Parents of special needs children face additional obstacles and difficulties, but like any other parent, they do what they can to make sure their children have fun.
Melissa Davis, the mother of 12-year-old Camden, an autistic child, experienced a drastic change in her son’s behavior almost overnight. Camden is not the happy, quiet young man he once was. Since it wasn’t verbal, this terrified mother had no way of knowing what was going on. She tried to recall any circumstances in the house that might have influenced Camden’s behavior, but couldn’t think of anything.
Her son began peeing on the bed at night and became violent for no apparent reason alongside the changes she was seeing.
Since she was certain that there was nothing in the house that would cause Camden to behave strangely, she thought it might be something at school that was influencing her son’s behavior.
Camden joined Hope Academy in Louisiana in 2017. The school emphasized non-discriminatory education for students with special needs.
About a year after joining Camden, he saw things change.
Melissa decided to put a Dictaphone in her son’s pocket to make sure nothing bad happened while she was away. Camden came home from school later in the day. Then Melissa took out the recorder and pressed the record button. Her whole world was turned upside down at this point. Her heart broke into a thousand pieces because of what she heard. Camden has been subjected to a lot of bullying.
The teacher and the assistant, not the other kids, were the ones who abused Camden.
The mother, who spoke to WBRZ, was shocked and said:
“BECAUSE IT WAS SO BAD, I JUST WANTED TO CRY, SCREAM, AND DO EVERYTHING I COULD.”
Melissa decided to post about what had happened on social media and in the newspapers in order to seek justice.
“If your child has special needs, look into why they’re acting that way because no child deserves to go through what my child went through,” she encouraged other special needs parents.
It quickly went viral.
The story went viral very quickly.
The school’s principal then issued a statement announcing the dismissal of the two staff involved in the event. Melissa never approached the school before releasing the audio clips on social media, according to her. The principal went on to say:
“THE PARENT ALSO REFUSED TO MEET WITH HOPE ACADEMY TO DISCUSS THE ACTIONS WE TOOK TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE.”
What would you do if you discovered that your child had been bullied? Would you follow Melissa’s lead?
