Jack Mock, a tough cop and volunteer boxing trainer, had no idea he had a soft side…until that soft side changed his life drastically.

Jack Mock is the perfect ruthless, no-nonsense man – a true gentleman. As a Pittsburgh Police Department investigator and a 22-year Army veteran who participated in the Gulf War, this shouldn’t surprise me. The outspoken cop and devout bachelor was known for his ability to intimidate others, and he had no intention of starting a family.

He spends most of his time at work and going about his daily life. In his spare time, he helped mentor poor children from difficult backgrounds at Steel City Boxing, a local gym run by a non-profit organization.

A life-changing experience

Those included Joshua, 15, and Jesse, 11, two brothers eager to train.

“You looked pale,” Mok commented. “There were bags under Josh’s eyes.”

Jack immediately felt a strong bond with the boys and the feelings were mutual. He had no idea how far this connection would lead now.

One day the boys suddenly stopped going to class. Jack was immediately concerned and rushed to find her.

What he had revealed would surprise him, but it would also have a profound effect on each of them.

shocking discovery

When Jack finally tracks down the men, the army veteran realizes the depth of their plight.

Joshua, the older brother, finally opens up and describes his and his brother’s predicament to Jack for the first time. Although Jack knew the majority of the students at the local gym had difficult backgrounds, he was surprised to learn how awful it was for these two young men.

The two spent their childhoods in extreme poverty and were rejected by their parents. They were placed in a nursing home along with their loved ones, who were sadly disinterested and abusive.

“He [Jack] asked me about it, and I just started crying,” Joshua explained.

 

With no clothes to wear, no beds to sleep in, and no parent to rely on or trust, their lives were a living nightmare.

 

“He says, ‘Coach, we have to sleep on the floor, and all there is on the floor is dog crap,” Jack recalled. “I’m attempting to pass the time by sleeping.” I try to go to bed as early as possible so that I can sleep till the next day when I have to return to school.”

Jack’s heart has been broken.

 

“I thought to myself, ‘They’re just wonderful kids,’” I said. “They are deserving of assistance,” he stated.

The narrative of Joshua and Jessee rocked Jack to his core, and the investigator understood he had to act quickly.

As a result, he took matters into his own hands, using his position and prestige to secure a few favors in order to provide the two boys with a new home: his own.

 

“He says, ‘You’re going home with me now,’” Joshua explained. “That was one of the most memorable events in my life thus far,” says the speaker.

 

Jack went from being a devout bachelor to a foster father to two children in a flash. But the story doesn’t end there.

 

A (SIGNIFICANT) STEP FORWARD

The two brothers saw a completely new side of their coach Jack after being fostered by him, and their mutual respect for each other grew and expanded.

 

By 2014, Jack’s thoughts were crystal clear. He desired to claim these youngsters as his own for the rest of his life. He began the process of adopting Josh and Jessee.

 

Joshua and Jessee were soon both Mooks, and they finally had the stability and love they deserved.

 

“We know he’s still Coach, but we also know he’s Dad.” He is, above all, a savior. “He’s my hero,” Joshua declared.

 

A New Beginning

The remarkable, heartwarming narrative takes yet another turn, as Jack’s life is about to be filled with yet another vacuum.

 

Following the publication of Jack’s adoption story on CBS News, the news organization apparently received a flood of communications from women who were plainly interested in dating him.

 

While Mary was not one of these ladies, she admits that she made it a point to “end up” at a bar where she knew Jack would be.

 

The two struck it off, and committed bachelor went from foster dad to dad… to husband in no time! Mary and Jack married in the summer of 2014, and with the addition of three of her own children, they had a large, lovely blended family of five children.

“I used to think being single was wonderful because there were no responsibilities,” Jack explained. “However, while you’re single, you have no idea what you’re losing out on. I’m pleased I let her tear down that wall and take me away from that life.”

 

This anecdote exemplifies how an open heart may transform one’s life. The two once impoverished lads are now living their best lives, full of love and trust, thanks to one man’s massive heart.

The rewards are boundless for Jack, and his previous life of solitude has reached new levels of fulfillment he never expected!
